AKEA Life aims to “revive the traditional family doctor” by offering consultations in your home, or place of work, outside normal surgery hours – in return for a monthly fee.

The Care Quality Commission regulated scheme will also offer instant access to specialists and for blood tests, vaccinations, health screening, physiotherapy, mental health care and other health services.

Only available in the North West of England at the moment, it has six doctors on standby. However, more medics are being recruited with the intention of expanding nationally over the next six months. The aim is to cover most parts of the UK within two years.

Ben Paglia, AKEA Life founder, said: “For busy working parents who want the healthcare profession to fit in with them, we’re there when you need us.”

He added: “The 21st century which is all about convenience. Many people do not want to wait for anything and they want to get things quickly, speaking to as few people as possible.”

The concierge doctor service will open from 8am – 10pm in the week and 9am – 5pm at weekends.

Patients, who sign up on a monthly basis, are assigned their own personal doctor who manages all aspects of their health care.

Monthly fees are £80 for those aged between 18 – 39, £100 for those between 40 and 64 and £120 for patients over 65. The annual fee for under-18s is £15.

Callouts are unlimited, but patients who need more than 12 face-to-face visits a year will pay an extra £75 per visit. Dr Jamie Paweleck, AKEA Life medical director said: “Nowadays, not only can it be difficult to fit getting medical advice around existing commitments – but it is no longer the norm to see the same GP. We want to change this, and bring back that relationship.” Existing patient records are retrieved by request.
